What is a White Filling?

White filling is a dental restorative material used to restore the function, integrity and morphology of missing tooth structure. The structural loss typically results from caries or external trauma. It is also lost intentionally during tooth preparation to improve the aesthetics or the physical integrity of the intended restorative material.

Procedure

Composite fillings are usually placed in one appointment. While the tooth is numb, your dentist will remove decay as necessary. The space will then be thoroughly cleaned and carefully prepared before the new filling is placed. If the decay was near the nerve of the tooth, a special medication will be applied for added protection. The composite filling will then be precisely placed, shaped, and polished, restoring your tooth to its original shape and function. Some patients may experience sensitivity when composite fillings are first placed, however this will subside shortly after your tooth acclimates to the new filling. You will be given care instructions at the conclusion of your treatment. Good oral hygiene practices, eating habits, and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new fillings.

From the start, tulip dental was easy to work with - scheduling my appointment and finding a time that would work with my busy work schedule. Had my first appointment with Dr. Hung as a new patient. It was a great experience. The staff are friendly, professional and very informative letting you know what is going on before it happens. Darien was my hygienist and had the best tools in mouth etiquette I have ever experienced at the dentist. My exam was thorough, painless and my questions and concerns were listened to and answered. Dr Hung was friendly and conversational, not just there to poke around your mouth but actually make a connection as well. I for sure made the right choice when picking my new dentist.
